I wouldn't think it's any big deal for you in the situation you mention; you probably don't regard yourself as lucky, that's all. Where it is of help to you is it can protect you from physical harm, you are lucky in this way. So when you go for your review just say to yourself, "no matter what, they're not going to cut my hand off, so what's the problem?"
