Check engine light on a 2006 Toyota Corolla?

My check engine light came on, so I checked the gas cap... it was loose, but the light didn't go back off, I've driven the car approximately 50 miles since then and had two auto repair facilities check the computer with the handheld device and both devices showed that there were no DTC codes in the computer.... what should I do?
