How much room does english mastiff need?

I am thinking to get an english mastiff puppy or adopt a young one from a shelter. Wondering how much room do they need in order to sleep, roam around the house etc. Will 1700 sq. ft house is enough for them? Do they slobber alot? I owned a saint bernard before so I know they drool a lot. Do mastiffs drool as much as saints or less?
