What did the ending of American Psycho mean?

I kind of understand what they were going for at the end of the movie... showing that all of the stereotypical business men all looked and acted the same so no one could tell them apart... But what I am most confused about is Paul's apartment being all freshly painted, cleaned up and for sale the next day after Patrick Bateman's meltdown. Did Paul's family find the apartment full of corpses, freak out and think that Paul did it and try to cover it up? What do you think?
